Vehicle Discovered: Painted Cave
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office has positively identified the occupant of a vehicle found at the bottom of a ravine off Painted Cave Road on July 4th. The decedent is 55 year old Timothy Goodwin of Santa Barbara who was reported missing in Santa Barbara County in March of 2012. His death is under investigation. No further details are being released at this time.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office is in the process of positively identifying the occupant found in a vehicle discovered yesterday at the bottom of a ravine, 300 feet off of Painted Cave Road. The vehicle is registered to an individual who was reported missing in Santa Barbara County in March of 2012. Due to the fact the accident did not occur recently, it may take the Coroner’s Office several weeks to positively identify the decedent. Until that time, no further information will be released regarding the case. The accident is under investigation.
Vehicle Discovered at Bottom of Ravine Off Painted Cave Road

At around 12:30 p.m. today, July 4th, Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit Copter Two was flying over the area of Highway 154 and Painted Cave Road when a Deputy on board observed a vehicle located 300 feet down a cliff, at the bottom of a ravine, in an area of thick brush. Sheriff’s Deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers responded to the scene. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers assisted in retrieving the vehicle.
The white Chevy pick-up is registered to the subject of a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office missing person case from March of 2012. It has not been determined yet if there are any occupants in the vehicle. It has also not been determined when the accident occurred
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. More details will be released as they become available.
