Lompoc Man Arrested for the Alleged Murder of His Brother
Lompoc - July 5th, 2016
At approximately 1:15 p.m. on July 4, 2016, Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 4300 block of W. Ocean Avenue in the unincorporated area of Lompoc to a report of an assault that had just occurred. When deputies arrived, they contacted the reporting party, 30-year-old Arturo Herrera of Lompoc. Herrera advised deputies that he discovered his younger brother, 28-year-old Enrique Herrera of Lompoc, had been assaulted. The Herrera brothers lived at the residence with their mother who was not home at the time of the incident.
Deputies located the victim inside his bedroom and determined he had been fatally injured as a result of an assault. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Enrique Herrera’s death was initiated and Sheriff’s detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division responded with the assistance of the Coroner’s Office, personnel from the Department of Justice and the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office.
Upon further investigation it was determined that the death was a homicide and that the reporting party, the older brother, was the suspect. Arturo Herrera was arrested and booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail on murder charges. He is being held on one million dollars bail.
The investigation is on-going and no additional details will be released at this time.
