Pedestrian Fatally Injured by Train in Montecito

 

UPDATE - August 21st, 2017

 

The decedent fatally injured on August 19, 2017, by an Amtrak passenger train near Butterfly Lane in Montecito has been identified as being 62-year-old Elaine Enick of Montecito.  The Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. 

 

Pedestrian Fatally Injured by Train in Montecito

 

Montecito — Just after 3:20 pm, August 19, 2017, an adult female in her forties was walking on the tracks near Butterfly Lane when she was struck and fatally injured by an Amtrak passenger train that was headed northbound.  The train engineer observed the subject on the tracks and activated the horn, whistle and braking system but the subject did not respond and was struck by the train. The collision is under investigation. 

 

The Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office in the process of making a next of kin notification and is conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.  An official cause and manner of death is pending toxicology and lab results.
