Public Assistance Requested to Help Locate Suspect Wanted by Isla Vista Foot Patrol

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is requesting public assistance to help locate a suspect who was the subject of a search last night, September 27, in Isla Vista. The incident started just after 7 p.m. when the Santa Barbara County Public Safety Dispatch Center received a report of a suspect that was attempting to break into a residence in the 6600 block of Sueno Road.
The reporting party stated that the subject was an African-American or a Hispanic male that was wearing all black clothing and carrying a backpack. The reporting party then observed the suspect causing a disturbance in the street and challenging residents to a physical confrontation. The reporting party saw the suspect hold his hand up and gesture as if he were holding a gun. The suspect was last seen fleeing the area on foot.
Additional 9-1-1 calls were received reporting what sounded like gunshots. The responding deputies and officers from the Isla Vista Foot Patrol established a perimeter and set up containment of the area. Law enforcement personnel gathered information that lead them to believe the suspect in this case was headed to a residence in the 6600 block of Picasso Road. The residence was checked but the suspect was not located at that time.
During the investigation law enforcement personnel located six shell casings and one unexpended round from a 22 caliber handgun in the front yard of a residence in the 6600 block of Sueno Road.
